International Tourist Tax - Japan

Effective from Monday, 7th January 2019, passengers travelling out of Japan will pay a 1,000 yen departure tax to expand and enhance the country’s tourist infrastructure. Travellers meeting certain conditions, such as “children under the age of 2” and “those leaving Japan on or after January 7, 2019, using an air ticket issued before January 7, 2019,” are exempt.

IMPORTANT SECURITY UPDATE - International Travellers

From June 30 2018, passengers departing from Australian international airports must presented all powders separately for inspection at the international security checkpoint. This includes everything from cosmetics – such as powdered foundation, blush and other similar items – through to baby formula, ground or powdered coffee, sugar, spices and more.

Further restrictions apply to ‘inorganic powders’, which the Australian Government defines as “a powder not consisting of, or derived from, living matter”, like salt, sand, talcum powder, powdered deodorant, foot powder, detergents and cleaning products. These products will need to be carried in a container no larger than 350 millilitres or 350 grams.

Founder of Kenya’s iconic ‘elephant orphanage’ dies aged 83

We support important foundations as a result of our Magellan Travel group membership, one of which is ‘The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’ in Kenya. This trust has played a key role in ensuring the survival of the many orphaned elephants in Kenya for more than 25 years.

It is with sadness today that we learned of the passing of Dame Daphne Sheldrick through breast cancer at the age of 83. If you would like to learn more about Dame Daphne Sheldrick and the great work that this charity does for orphaned elephant, we have a link below from the BBC which you may find interesting.
