The Concept

A great alternative to our Canberra Civics & Citizenship tour, this itinerary provides knowledge, skills and values of citizenship through active learning. It includes government institutions, galleries and museums, and a host of fun activities to keep your students stimulated.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1: MELBOURNE (D)

Start your Melbourne Civics and Citizenship program at the Parliament House of Victoria with a tour and role play activity. This interactive activity allows your students to experience the law-making process first-hand by taking on the roles of Speaker, Clerk, Serjeant-at-Arms, Premier, Leader of the Opposition and other Members of Parliament.

Move on to Government House of Victoria for a tour led by a senior member of Government House staff, offering an insight into the constitutional, ceremonial, international and community engagement duties of the Governor. Includes a tour of the State Apartments to learn about the history of the House.

Then its off to the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia @ Federation Square, the home of Australian art, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous, from colonial period to present day.

DAY 2: MELBOURNE (BLD)

After breakfast today's activities include:

A visit to the National Museum of Victoria - a natural and cultural history museum (the largest in the southern hemisphere), located in Carlton Gardens.

Following lunch, head to the Shrine of Remembrance to participate in the Student Program. The war memorial was built to honour the men and women of Victoria who served in World War I, but now functions as a memorial to all Australians who have served in any war.

Move on to the National Gallery of Victoria, the home of international art from Europe, Asia, America and Oceania.

Tonight students will have fun at King Pin with 2 games of Laser Tag, 1 game of bowling and dinner.

DAY 3: DEPART MELBOURNE (BL)

After breakfast today's activities include:

Victorian Electoral Education's Passport to Democracy program, encouraging and empowering primary, secondary and senior applied learning and VCE students to find their voice and use it to contribute to positive changes for their community.

Victorian Institute of Sport - visit Melbourne's Olympic and Paralympic training facility, learn about the VIS, individual athletes, meet a VIS athlete, experience the training load of athletes and tour the gym and testing labs.
