Why travel credits are being offered rather than refunds and when refunds are being issued why they are taking so long to be processed?

Wednesday, 3 June 2020

There has been a lot of debate recently on why travel credits are being issued rather than refunds and when refunds are being issued why they are taking so long to be processed.

The Council of Australian Tour Operators (CATO) represents the land supply sector of the Australian travel agencies. Their members, who include tour operators, wholesalers and destination experts, create, supply and deliver the travel products sold online and through travel agencies.

COVID-19 has clipped all our wings and has devastated the global travel and tourism industry. With this has come certain challenges for both consumers and the industry.

In this video CATO chair Dennis Bunnik provides the answers as to why travel credits are being offered rather than refunds and when refunds are being issued why they are taking so long to be processed. The purpose of this video is to provide greater understanding of the processes and systems behind the scenes that the industry is tackling to unravel the millions of holiday bookings (or educational tour bookings) that have had to be cancelled due to COVID.

To our very valued clients,

Our thoughts are with you and your families during these uncertain times. Each of us need to keep our families, employees, clients and communities safe.

Due to the unprecedented current Coronavirus pandemic and further State imposed lockdowns, GET staff will all be working remotely from Friday 27th March until further notice. Please be assured that this will not affect the way we service our clients.

For schools who have postponed their tours, our operations department is working hard on rebooking your dates and attractions. We ask for your patience and understanding as we navigate this process, especially with non-essential business being shut down.

For schools who have refunds pending we will have them to you as soon as it is possible. Timing depends on the refunds from our suppliers.

Please contact us on 1300 660 825 if the matter is urgent;  send us an email on  or contact your Account Manager or operations consultant for further enquiries.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
