The Concept

Explore the cultural heart of Melbourne in this 3-day tour. Visit the prestigious National Gallery of Victoria, see contemporary and indigenous art at the Ian Potter Centre and take part in a custom designed workshop at the Arts Centre. Students will also attend a theatre matinee and take a guided walking tour of some of Melbourne’s best street-art.

This tour is aimed at Secondary School Visual Arts students. Students will have improved learning through visiting Melbourne’s Art Galleries and taking part in a custom-made arts workshop.

Travel to/from Melbourne not included but can be arranged.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 TRAVEL TO MELBOURNE (D)

On arrival in Melbourne visit the National Gallery of Victoria - view the Winter Masterpieces. The gallery features ancient and modern art from both the Eastern and Western hemispheres in its international galleries.

Head to the Ian Potter Centre @ Federation Square - home to Australian art from the colonial period to present day, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous art.

Later this afternoon, check in to your accommodation and enjoy some free time to explore.

DAY 2 MELBOURNE (B, L, D)

After breakfast, visit the Arts Centre Melbourne where you will explore the labyrinth beneath the famous spire and uncover the fascinating history of the arts precinct. Students are invited to take a look inside Australia’s largest performing arts centre and the home of world-class music, dance, theatre and opera companies. View the vast underground theatres and discover highlights from the world-renowned performing arts collection. The tour will also encompass current gallery exhibitions and the significant Australian artworks found throughout the Art Centre Foyer. You will have the opportunity to unlock your imagination and creativity when you participate in a custom-made workshop.

DAY 3 MELBOURNE (B, L)

After breakfast, take a private guided walking tour of some of the renowned street art in Melbourne’s laneways and alleys. Then, take your learning to another level as you ascend 88 floors to the Eureka Skydeck, for panoramic views of Melbourne. With its interactive displays and educational activities, this really is the ‘highest classroom in the Southern Hemisphere’.
