The Concept

Students will be introduced to the stunning landscape of Central Australia and develop their understanding and appreciation of our unique Indigenous people and their relationship to the land. Participants will increase teamwork and leadership skills, improve cultural awareness and gain a greater understanding of nature.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1: SCHOOL – ADELAIDE (D)

Morning departure for Adelaide where you will stay overnight.

DAY 2: ADELAIDE – COOBER PEDY (B, L, D)

Begin your travel into the vast South Australian Outback to the opal capital of the world, Coober Pedy.

Stay underground and visit a local underground home and church.

DAY 3: COOBER PEDY – ULURU (B, L, D)

Continue travelling to Uluru. On arrival set up camp.

Day 4: ULURU AND KATA TJUTA – KINGS CANYON (B, L, D)

Following breakfast visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre where aspects of Anangu life are presented.

View and walk around the world’s greatest monolith, Uluru.

This afternoon travel to Kings Canyon and set up camp.

DAY 5: KINGS CANYON – ALICE SPRINGS (B, L, D)

Following breakfast climb to the top of the canyon rim for rewarding spectacular views.

Travel to Alice Springs where you will set up camp for two nights.

DAY 6: ALICE SPRINGS (B, L, D)

Following breakfast spend a full day exploring Alice Springs. Today's program will include:
• Old Telegraph Station
• School of the Air
• Royal Flying Doctor Base
• Alice Springs Desert Park

DAY 7: ALICE SPRINGS – DALY WATERS (B, L, D)

Depart Alice Springs.

Stop at The Devil’s Marbles on the way before continuing to Daly Waters to set up camp.

DAY 8: DALY WATERS – KATHERINE GORGE (B, L, D)

Early departure to Mataranka for a welcome swim in the hot springs.

Then travel to Katherine Gorge for overnight camp.

DAY 9: KATHERINE GORGE – KAKADU (B, L, D)

Following breakfast, enjoy a 2-hour cruise into the gorge then travel on to Kakadu.

DAY 10: KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (B, L, D)

Following breakfast you have a full program which includes:
• Park Ranger Headquarters and Bowali Visitor Centre
• Ubirr Art Site
• Yellow Waters cruise
• Nourlangie Rock

Day 11: KAKADU – BERRY SPRINGS – DARWIN (B, L, D)

Following breakfast depart Kakadu and travel to Berry Springs.

Visit the Territory Wildlife Park, then travel on to Darwin and set up camp.

DAY 12: DARWIN – SCHOOL (B)

Depending on flight times, you may wish to add optional activities.

Transfer to the airport for your flight back home. Coach transfer back to school.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES (ADDITIONAL COSTS MAY APPLY)

• Mindil Markets, Darwin (open Thursday and Sundays in the dry season - late April to October)
