The Concept

This tour is designed for secondary school students to gain an improved knowledge of Australia's unique environment by experiencing some of our geographic wonders. It will also encourage team bonding and leadership skills through camping and living in remote areas and a better understanding of Indigenous life.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1: SCHOOL – COOBER PEDY (D)

Early morning departure from school for express travel to Coober Pedy, stopping where and when necessary (breakfast and lunch own arrangements).

Arrive in Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world. Stay underground and visit a local underground home and church.

DAY 2: COOBER PEDY - ULURU (B, L, D)

Continue travelling north to Marla. Drive across the Northern Territory border to Uluru and set up camp for two nights at Yulara.

DAY 3: ULURU AND KATA TJUTA (B, L, D)

Following breakfast visit Uluru-KataTjuta Cultural Centre where aspects of Anangu life are presented. View and walk around the world’s greatest monolith rising to 348m above a floodplain and is 9km in circumference.

This afternoon enjoy a walk at Kata Tjuta.

Enjoy free time under the direction of teachers.

DAY 4: ULURU - KINGS CANYON (B, L, D)

Following breakfast its time to leave Uluru National Park, stopping at the Mt Conner Lookout to view the mesa rising almost 300 metres out of the plain.

View Lake Amadeus, a giant salt lake, in the distance.

Continue through remote desert terrain to Kings Canyon, located in Watarrka National Park, where you will set up camp.

DAY 5: KINGS CANYON - ALICE SPRINGS (B, L, D)

Following breakfast climb to the top of the canyon rim with awe-inspiring views.

Leave Kings Canyon and travel at leisure to Alice Springs. Set up camp for two nights.

DAY 6: WEST MACDONNELL RANGES (B, L, D)

Following breakfast visit Ormiston Gorge. If time permits, and depending on the weather, enjoy a swim at the waterhole.

Continue to Standley Chasm for a midday viewing of the Chasm. On your return visit Simpsons Gap.

DAY 7: ALICE SPRINGS – COOBER PEDY (B, L, D)

Pack up camp and enjoy some last minute shopping and sightseeing before beginning your return journey home, stopping overnight in Coober Pedy.

DAY 8: COOBER PEDY - ADELAIDE (B, L)

Depart Coober Pedy and travel through to the South Australian outback.

Arrive in Adelaide late in the afternoon and stay overnight.

DAY 9: ADELAIDE - SCHOOL

Depart Adelaide later in the morning and travel home, stopping where and when necessary.

Arrive at school mid-evening.

Conditions
  • All travellers will be required to bring their own towel, sleeping bag, re-usable water bottle, cutlery, crockery and toiletries.
