DAY 1 SCHOOL – ADELAIDE (D)

An early morning departure for Adelaide, where you will stay overnight in bunkhouse accommodation.

DAY 2 ADELAIDE – COOBER PEDY (B, L, D)

Up early this morning for the long journey ahead. Travel north to Port Augusta. Travel into the vast South Australian outback to the opal capital of the world, Coober Pedy. Stay in dormitory accommodation underground at the Opal Cave. Then tonight the locals will show you a typical underground home and church. Most interesting of all an opal cutting and polishing demonstration.

DAY 3 COOBER PEDY – ULURU (B, L, D)

Continue travelling north to Marla. Drive across the Northern Territory border to Uluru Rock and set up camp for 1 night at Yulara. This evening enjoy the remarkable sunset at Uluru (time permitting).

Day 4 ULURU AND KATA TJUTA – KINGS CANYON (B, L, D)

Begin the day at the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre where Anangu, (local Aboriginal people), have worked with architects, designers and interpreters to create a dynamic experience of indigenous life. View or walk around the world’s greatest monolith, rising to 348m and 9km in circumference. Then travel to Kings Canyon and set up camp for one night.

DAY 5 KINGS CANYON – ALICE SPRINGS (B, L, D)

This morning, climb to the top of the Kings Canyon rim and be rewarded with spectacular views. Marvel at the sight of red sandstone walls plunging into lush vegetation and natural rock pools. Here, you will truly feel as if you are in the heart of Australia. After packing up and leaving Kings Canyon, travel at leisure to Alice Springs. Set up camp for two nights.

DAY 6 ALICE SPRING AND WEST MACDONNELL RANGES (B, L, D)

A full day exploring Alice Springs beginning with a visit to:

Old Telegraph Station - This is the site of the original township of Alice Springs. It was established in 1871 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide along Australia’s Overland Telegraph Line. Learn about the history of the Telegraph Station and the township, the lives of the early telegraphers and their families, as well as the Stolen Generation history of the site in the Bungalow era of the 1930s.

School of the Air – the school provides lessons to children that live in remote areas of Australia. Daily lessons are broadcast via satellite to homes in over 1.3 million square kilometres of Outback South Australia, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Royal Flying Doctor Base – learn about the history of the Royal Flying Doctors who continue to provide primary health care and emergency services to those who live in rural and remote areas of Australia.

Desert Park – a unique flora and fauna park which displays the 3 ecological habitats of Central Australia.

DAY 7 ALICE SPRINGS – DALY WATERS (B, L, D)

Enjoy free time this morning, at your teachers’ discretion, before visiting the Devil’s Marbles. Continue on to Daly Waters via Tennant Creek and set up your overnight camp.

DAY 8 DALY WATERS – KATHERINE GORGE (B, L, D)

An early departure from Daly Waters. Continue to Mataranka for a welcome swim in the hot springs. Then travel to Katherine Gorge for overnight camp.

DAY 9 KATHERINE GORGE – KAKADU (B, L, D)

Enjoy a two hour cruise into the spectacular gorge. After lunch, travel northwest to Kakadu National Park to set up camp at Cooinda for two nights.

DAY 10 KAKADU NATIONAL PARK (B, L, D)

Explore the timeless grandeur of the heritage listed Kakadu National Park. Today, your program includes Park Ranger Headquarters and Bowali Visitor Centre, Ubirr Art Site, Yellow Waters Cruise and Nourlangie Rock.

Day 11 KAKADU – BERRY SPRINGS – DARWIN (B, L, D)

Depart Kakadu and travel to Berry Springs. Visit the Territory Wildlife Park, home to thousands of animals including several rare, or endangered in the wild. Arrive in Darwin late afternoon to set up camp.

DAY 12 DARWIN – CAPITAL CITY (B)

Depending on flight times, you may wish to visit AquaScene or Crocodylus, before transferring to Darwin Airport for the return flight to your capital city.
