The Concept

Experience Yogyakarta, a fascinating city with deep artistic and spiritual traditions and a bold modern edge. This 8-day tour offers a taste of Javanese culture with visits to iconic sites and workshops introducing local art and culture. Highlights include a visit to the World Heritage Borobudur Temple, a Javanese traditional dance class and attending a Javanese ballet, an art-form close to local’s hearts. There’s also plenty of time for students to explore this wonderful city and experience Javanese food, culture and shopping up close. The final two nights of the tour are spent in relaxing Bali.

This tour is aimed at secondary Indonesian language students who will improve language skills, gain a better understanding of and more respect for other cultures, gain confidence and improve team bonding.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1: AUSTRALIA – DENPASAR – YOGYAKARTA – MAGELANG (D)

Depart Australia on your flight to Denpasar. On arrival, transfer to your domestic flight to Yogyakarta.

Meet your guide upon arrival in Yogyakarta and transfer by coach to your Magelang accommodation. After dinner participate in a Gamelan lesson in the village of Candi Rijo.

DAY 2: MAGELANG – YOGYAKARTA (BD)

After an early breakfast depart by coach to see the sunrise over Borobudur Temple, listed as a World Heritage Site. Explore the nearby village, with insights into traditions, handicrafts and agriculture.

Afterwards, meet your coach and travel to your Yogyakarta accommodation.

DAY 3: YOGYAKARTA (BD)

Following breakfast participate in a coach tour of the city. The tour features a drive past the Sultan’s Palace, entrance to Taman Sari and a visit to the Beringharjo Market

This afternoon, enjoy a batik lesson which will include designing, drawing and finishing by removing the wax in boiling water. Your batik piece can be taken home.

Tonight enjoy dinner at Kaliopak and watch a Wayang Puppet Performance.

DAY 4: YOGYAKARTA - PRAMBANAN HINDU TEMPLE - YOGYAKARTA (BD)

After breakfast visit the Cultural School for a Javanese traditional dance class.

In the afternoon visit Prambanan Hindu Temple, then enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

This evening enjoy a Ramayana ballet performance at Prambanan Temple before returning to Yogyakarta.

DAY 5: YOGYAKARTA (B)

After breakfast today is under the directions of your teachers.

Gembira Loka Zoo - Located near downtown Yogyakarta, the Gembira Loka Zoo is a favourite place for tourists and locals alike. Amongst the variety of animals you will see is the world’s largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon, often reaching 3 metres in length and 70 kgs in weight!

Group Photo in Traditional Costume - Enjoy dressing up in a traditional Balinese costume for an exclusive group photo. A fabulous way to remember your trip!

DAY 6: YOGYAKARTA – SANUR (B)

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Denpasar. Meet your coach and transfer to your Sanur accommodation.

DAY 7: SANUR (B)

Following breakfast the day is set aside for activities under the directions of your teachers. (You will have day-use of a room until 6:00 pm).

In the evening transfer to the airport for your flight to Australia.

DAY 8: AUSTRALIA

Arrive in Australia.
