The Concept

This 5 day/4 night itinerary focuses on key branches of science of environmental and sustainability learning and is targeted towards secondary school students. The many highlights include – Rainforestation Nature Park which includes talks and walks on the environment as well as a dreamtime tour, Fitzroy Island – turtle rehabilitation centre and reef restoration programs. To finish a magnificent week-long ‘Living Lesson', Port Douglas and Hartley's Crocodile Adventures will leave students with many great memories and lots of incredible learning experiences.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 CAIRNS (D)

Arrive into Cairns this morning.
Visit Cairns Aquarium: Discover the amazing creatures that inhabit the Great Barrier Reef and the Northern Queensland Wet Tropics (educational programs also available).
Afternoon activities at teachers' discretion.
Transfer to your accommodation

DAY 2 CAIRNS – RAINFORESTATION NATURE PARK (B, L, D)

Your day tour to the Rainforestation Nature Park includes:
Pamagirri Dance Show: The Pamagirri Aboriginal Dance Troupe perform before the natural backdrop of the rain forest and tell stories of the unique animals, traditional history, and food gathering of their ancient culture using the didgeridoo and clapsticks.
Dreamtime Walk: During this guided walk learn how the didgeridoo is made and played as well as boomerang and spear throwing.
Rainforest Tour: Students have the opportunity to tour the rainforest to understand the flora and fauna in this world-famous area. During the tour students will have the opportunity to plant a locally sourced native rainforest plant selected especially to attract wildlife.

DAY 3 CAIRNS – FITZROY ISLAND (B, L, D)

Today enjoy a cruise to Fitzroy Island to learn about marine biology and reef sustainability. Your day includes:
- Orientation with a Marine Biologist
- Turtle Rehabilitation Centre Tour
- Glass bottom boat Tour
- Guided snorkeling
- Lunch
- Eye on the Reef Government sustainability program
- Reef resilience & sustainability presentation
- Self-guided Fitzroy Island Ecology walk

Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided.

DAY 4 CAIRNS - CAIRNS – PORT DOUGLAS (B, D)

This morning travel to Port Douglas stopping at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, the best place to see crocodiles and local wildlife in North Queensland. With over 2100 metres of timber boardwalks and pathways you are led on a journey of discovery through woodlands and rainforest where you can see an array of wildlife including beautiful tropical birds, reptiles, insects and other native fauna. The knowledgeable staff provide an entertaining and educational wildlife presentation which includes demonstrations with snakes, cassowaries, koalas, crocodiles, quolls and much more.
Some free time in Port Douglas before returning to your accommodation later in the afternoon.
Breakfast and dinner provided.

DAY 5 CAIRNS – HOME (B)

After breakfast, say goodbye to Cairns and head back to the airport to return home.
