The Concept

Our French Culture and History tour is the perfect cross-faculty tour, specifically designed around CLIL principles. This tour features 4 nights in Paris, and private coach travel to the French and Belgian Battlefields of the Western Front with guided tours in Ypres, Amiens, Caen and St Malo.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1: AUSTRALIA - PARIS (D)

Depart Australia on your flight to Paris. On arrival you will be met by a local representative who will escort you to your private coach. Transfer to your accommodation.

DAYS 2-4: PARIS (BD)

Spend the next 2 days exploring the amazing sights of Paris starting with a half day guided city tour by private coach. A public transport card is included, giving you unlimited access to the metro, bus, tram and RER trains in Paris to continue your own sightseeing. Speak to your tour consultant about the many options available in Paris that you would like to include.

DAY 5: PARIS - YPRES (BD)

After breakfast check out of your accommodation and travel to the Belgian battlefields by private coach. Spend the day visiting the battlefield sites in and around Ypres before checking into your accommodation. Tonight enjoy an early dinner allowing time to walk to Menin Gate to watch the daily Ceremony of the Last Post.

DAY 6: YPRES (BD)

After breakfast meet your guide for the day outside the In Flanders Field Museum, situated in the rebuilt Cloth Tower in the Ypres City Square, and enjoy your guided tour. Wander around Ypres and try the local Belgium specialties, Frites and Waffles for lunch (own expense), then travel by private coach to the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917. Here you will be guided through the displays and memorials, including the re-created trench system and underground tunnels. Return to Ypres later that afternoon by private coach.

DAY 7: YPRES - VILLERS-BRETONNEUX - AMIENS (BD)

After breakfast check out of your accommodation and travel to the Somme Battlefields by private coach. First stop is the historically important village of Fromelles, where Australian soldiers were involved in what has been described as “the worst 24 hours in Australia’s entire history”. Meet your local guide for a guided tour of the Somme Battlefields including the Australian memorial and the Franco-Australian museum in Villers-Bretonneux. If time permits you might also like to visit Le Hamel and the Great War Museum in Peronne (entrance not included). Continue travelling by private coach to your accommodation in the Amiens area.

DAY 8: AMIENS - CAEN (BD)

After breakfast check out of your accommodation and travel to Normandy by private coach via the beautiful city of Rouen and the stunning seaside towns of Honfleur, Trouville and Deauville, and on to your accommodation in Caen.

DAY 9: CAEN - D-DAY BEACHES - CAEN (BD)

After breakfast visit the Caen Memorial Museum and spend the remainder of the day exploring this historical area of Normandy, including the WWII landing beaches of Utah, Omaha and Juno. Return to Caen.

DAY 10: CAEN - MONT ST MICHEL - ST MALO (BD)

After breakfast check out of your accommodation and travel by private coach to the breathtaking abbey of Mont St Michel. After this visit continue travelling on to your accommodation in St Malo.

DAY 11: ST AMO - PARIS (BD)

After breakfast check our of your accommodation and travel to your Paris accommodation by private coach via the beautiful countryside of Brittany.

DAYS 12-13: PARIS - AUSTRALIA (B)

After breakfast check out of your accommodation and transfer to the airport for your flight home.

GUIDED WALKING TOUR OF PARIS
3-hour guided walking tours of Paris can be arranged with your choice of an art and museum tour, history and architecture tour, or an off the beaten track tour. You can also design your own walking tour in conjunction with our guides. Entrance fees to various sites on the tour are at an additional cost.
