The Concept

New Zealand is a small country with big ideas about sustainability and caring for the environment. It is renowned for its love of the outdoors and, because of this, has grown many unique initiatives and businesses that are designed around caring for the environment.

This exciting tour will provide your students with first hand experience of possible solutions being trialled to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of the country's development. Visit a wide range of sustainability initiatives including waterway management systems, beach clean up organisations, eco sanctuaries, animal and bird conservationists, sustainable practising farms and ecotourism activity providers.

STEM

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 SCHOOL - AUCKLAND (D)

Arrive in Auckland and meet your guide at the airport. Transfer to the city and enjoy an orientation tour and visit the Flagship Education Centre, the most sustainable building in New Zealand and enjoy a talk by the “Love Your Coast” team.

DAY 2 AUCKLAND - RAGLAN (B,D)

Travel to Raglan, to work on a ‘secret’ immersive project to plan and design the next creation that will save the planet. Today you will also take part in a beach clean up, helping to keep Aoteoroa’s coastline pristine!

DAY 3 RAGLAN (B,D)

Continue with your project this morning and head down to the beach for a surf lesson later in the day.

DAY 4 RAGLAN- TAUPO (B,D)

Travel to Taupo and take a cruise on the lake to see the famous Māori Rock Carvings. Free time for the group in the afternoon.

DAY 5 TAUPO - WELLINGTON (B,D)

This morning you will visit a local Māori iwi to hear how they are working to protect the lake. Travel to Wellington and stop to see a geothermal energy plant, to learn how this resource is being utilised.

DAY 6 WELLINGTON (B,D)

Take an orientation walking tour with your guide this morning. Visit the Te Papa Museum and take a guided tour around it’s cultural exhibitions. Later you have the opportunity to volunteer at Zealandia, the world’s first fenced urban ecosanctuary.

DAY 7 WELLINGTON (B,D)

Take a morning ferry to the South Island and travel to Kaikoura, taking in incredible scenery and stopping to see the South Island seals en route.

DAY 8 KAIKOURA (B,D)

Head out to the ocean on a whale watching tour run by a local ecotourism operator. Then visit a local Department of Conservation centre and take part in a tree planting.

DAY 9 KAIKOURA - CHRISTCHURCH (B,D)

Travel to Christchurch where you will hear about the sustainable considerations taken to rebuild the city with a local organisation. Take a bus tour and visit quake city to learn about the earthquakes.

DAY 10 CHRISTCHURCH - SCHOOL

Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Australia.
