The Concept

This 5-day tour builds on student’s knowledge through integrated learning activities. While S.T.E.M principles are a focus, students will also gain a greater understanding of Australian democracy and politics. It is designed to spark the light of inspiration in your science students through exposure to some of Australia's leading science educational programs.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 SCHOOL – CANBERRA (D)

An early morning departure from your school, travelling by coach to Canberra. Dinner will be provided, on arrival at your accommodation.

DAY 2 CANBERRA (B, L, D)

After breakfast, you will start the day with a guided tour of the Australian Institute of Sport. The focus is on technology in sport. Tour the home of past, present and future sporting champions with one of Australia’s elite athletes as your guide. The tour gives you a unique view of the world class facilities and an insight into the life of an elite athlete.
From here your coach will take you onto Parliament House. Guided Tours will provide an insight into the historical and architectural significance of Parliament House. . If Parliament is in session, you can observe proceedings from the soundproof gallery.
After lunch, immerse yourself in the incredible Australian War Memorial, and their special education program titled “Science and War”. It explores the impact and development of technology during wartime.
Head back to your accommodation for a short break before dinner, after which you will travel to the Canberra Space Dome and Observatory. View and discover the wonders of the night sky, learning from professional astronomers.

DAY 3 CANBERRA (B, L, D)

Following breakfast this morning, head to the fantastic Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex, to learn about the role Australia takes in the exploration of space. Enjoy a 90-minute education program that can be tailored to your needs.
After lunch, your coach will take you to the Ian Potter Technology Learning Centre for a two-hour interactive workshop. Students will be exposed to the innovation and design process through topics such as 3D design, building and programming robots.
Next stop Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre. This is the highlight of most school trips to Canberra, and with more than 200 hands-on exhibits in eight themed galleries plus live Spectacular Science Shows throughout, this self-guided experience encourages students to discover the smarter way to have fun! Learn about your own body for walking, talking, listening, cycling, throwing and balancing. Experience an earthquake in the Centre’s living room, watch a lightning strike or make music on a harp without strings. The Environment Exhibition shows how individual Australians and visitors can make a difference to global environmental issues.(Evening sessions available at additional cost)
Dinner is included this evening.

DAY 4 CANBERRA (B, L, D)

After breakfast, immerse yourself in the journey of Australian democracy and the stories and events that have shaped our nation, at the fascinating Museum of Australian Democracy. The Museum is located in Old Parliament House.
Then visit the CSIRO Discovery Centre- highlights of the CSIRO’s interactive education program include conducting experiments in the Discover Lab and watching a 3D movie (subject to availability, as this is a most popular program with limited resources).
This afternoon, visit the Geoscience Australia Education Centre and take part in activities ranging from exploring geoscience in the lab to risk modelling Australia’s coastline.
Dinner is provided at your accommodation this evening.

DAY 5 CANBERRA – SCHOOL (B)

Check out of your accommodation after an early breakfast, then depart on the return coach journey to school.
