The Concept

Once described by Marco Polo as ‘the finest and most luxurious city in the world’ Hangzhou boasts two world heritage listed sites amongst many other city highlights.

Teachers and students enjoy visiting West Lake and Leifeng Pagoda, and visiting one of China’s most famous and prestigious tea plantations. A highlight of Hangzhou is the spectacular light show across the Grand Canal, a must-see during your stay.

Itinerary Day By Day

Arrive from Shanghai this afternoon by coach* or train, and check into your hotel. *If you are travelling by coach, we recommend a stop at Wuzhen, a 1300- year old water town on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and listed as one of China’s top 10 historical and cultural towns.

After breakfast transfer by private coach to the World Heritage listed West Lake and Leifeng Pagoda. Explore the beautiful Leifeng Pagoda, inspect the ancient ruins (AD 975) beneath before climbing to the top floor for the spectacular views across West Lake and to Hangzhou city. As students commence the journey down, take time to learn the famous Chinese love story of the White Maiden Bai Suzhen through the magnificent wood carvings before walking to the departure point for a cruise on the West Lake (45 Min). Enjoy lunch nearby before heading by private coach to the Dragon Well Tea Plantation. Students are taken on a guided walk through the tea plantation, shown how to pick tea correctly, and then how to sort tea before participating in their own Chinese tea ceremony in the Zen Garden. Return to your hotel by private coach around 1630 and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before making your way down to the riverfront on the Grand Canal and witness the spectacular light show transposed on the buildings opposite, designed for the 2016 G20 Summit.
