The Concept

Immerse yourself in Chinese language and culture in a visit to captivating Beijing, home to over 21 million people. Students on this 9-day tour will stay at our preferred Beijing Language College and immerse themselves in the Chinese language and culture, undertaking dedicated language lessons and experience a series of cultural activities that will offer a fascinating glimpse into the enigma that is modern Communist China. Tour highlights include visits to the Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall of China (Mutianyu section), a visit to the Beijing Palaeontology Museum, cooking class and much more.

Secondary school Chinese language students will improve language skills and gain an increased understanding and respect for other cultures. There is a minimum of 9 hours allocated for language study, and can be increased to 12 hours should teachers prefer. Students will also gain confidence with their language skills, and the tour will improve student bonding.

Itinerary Day By Day

Depart Australia on your flight to Beijing. On arrival, transfer to the Beijing Language College. The remainder of the day is allocated as leisure time, giving you an opportunity to settle into your new surrounds for the next 3 days. Students can take advantage of the superb sporting facilities on site, such as a magnificent 50m swimming pool, basketball stadium, gymnasium, indoor and outdoor soccer, badminton, table tennis, and more. Depending on your arrival time, meals will be provided accordingly.

After breakfast this morning, begin the day with a welcome ceremony in the college lecture theatre before you commence your language school program. Each day will consist of morning language lessons, followed by afternoon activities such as Chinese cultural learning (including various ceremonies), cooking class, calligraphy classes, and sporting activities with other students at the college. Accommodation is twin share with private facilities, located on campus with full security provided.

Following breakfast in the college dining hall, you will continue your language and culture program. The program will follow a similar lesson plan to the previous day- Teachers, please note that you can have some input into the language and cultural planning, please contact us for more information.

After breakfast this morning, you will enjoy your final language lesson before attending the closing ceremony provided for you by the college. Following the ceremony, board your private coach and head to the Great Wall. We prefer to take students to the Mutianyu section, rebuilt in 1569 as it has wonderful views across neighbouring countries and provinces. It also has the very popular toboggan ride, which all students love when it comes time to head back down from the Wall! Your private coach will then take you to your hotel in downtown Beijing. Dinner is own arrangements this evening – you can walk to one of the many department stores nearby for a meal in the food courts or one of the many fast food restaurants – something students often look forward to after a few days of Chinese cuisine.

Following breakfast this morning, walk to Tiananmen Square where Mao Tse-tung raised the flag for the People’s Republic, followed by a visit to the nearby Forbidden City. There are a number of museums and other attractions to keep you engaged. Returning to your hotel later this afternoon, the remainder of the day is allocated as leisure time at your teacher’s discretion – some suggestions include visiting the very popular ‘knock off’ department store for some shopping, a walking or rickshaw tour of Hu Tong historical town (recommended), or dress up in Chinese clothes and learn how to make up Chinese medicine.

This evening, enjoy an acrobat show and a Peking duck dinner, a Beijing specialty.

After breakfast head off to see the Temple of Heaven. After your visit, your coach will take you to your restaurant for lunch, then onto to the Summer Palace with its ornamental gardens, lake and characteristic pavilions. Return to your hotel later this afternoon and enjoy some leisure time at your teachers’ discretion. Tonight is allocated as free evening – visit the famous Beijing Night markets where students will enjoy seeing the amazing array of foods, along with the color and light show. A must do experience!

Full buffet breakfast at the hotel is followed by one of the highlights of your trip – a visit to the Beijing Palaeontology Museum. Students will spend 3 hours here viewing and preparing fossils (which they can take home), making a tee shirt, and participating in a guided tour of the museum learning all about the history of dinosaurs in China. This is a unique and amazing experience recommended for all students and teachers – you will most likely never get to hold a fossil over 1m years old ever again! With your fossil safely in hand, head over the road to the Beijing Zoo and visit the Pandas before heading back to your hotel, arriving mid-afternoon. Enjoy some leisure time at your teachers discretion. Dinner this evening is at your own arrangements, although can be arranged if you prefer.

Enjoy free time after breakfast, until your transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Arrive home in Australia subject to airline schedules.
