The Concept

The highlight of this program is the 4 day fully immersive language program at the Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Foreign Language School, designed specifically for Australian students. Students will also experience the marvels of Beijing, in this 10-day tour immersing students in contemporary and historical China.

The itinerary can also be adjusted should you wish to arrange a visit to your sister school whilst in China.

This itinerary is designed to place secondary school students in an integrated learning environment which will accelerate their language development and grow their knowledge of Chinese Culture

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 AUSTRALIA – SHANGHAI

Fly from Australia to Shanghai. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Includes a snack on arrival (evening).

DAY 2 SHANGHAI (B, L, D)

After breakfast, experience exotic and cosmopolitan Shanghai. Walk along The Bund, with its famous European architecture. Visit the classical Yu Gardens, located in the southeast part of the old town, and the Shanghai World Financial Centre and its breathtaking views from the 100th observation floor. Browse through the Shanghai Museum of Art and History, and enjoy a cruise on the river. Lunch and dinner are included.

DAY 3 SHANGHAI LANGUAGE SCHOOL (B, L, D)

Opening ceremony (8.10-8.55).
Mandarin language and culture learning (9.10 am-9.50 am).
Mandarin language and culture learning (10.15 am -11.00 am).
Lecture: smooth communication in Chinese (11.10 am -11.55 am).
Lunch– school canteen followed by sports with Chinese students (11.55 am -1.25 pm).
Culture learning – field excursion: Shanghai architecture, local shops (1.25 pm -3.10 pm).
Visit to a Chinese family home, learning to make a traditional Chinese Dish (3.10 pm -5.00 pm).

DAY 4 SHANGAHI LANGUAGE SCHOOL (B, L, D)

Mandarin language and culture learning (8.10am -8.55 am).
Mandarin language and culture learning (9.10am -9.50 am).
Chinese calligraphy class (writing) (10.15 am -11.00 am).
Chinese calligraphy class (painting) (11.10 am -11.55 am).
Lunch– school canteen followed by Chinese traditional instrument appreciation (11.55 am -1.25 pm).
Culture learning – field excursion: visit Zhu Jia Jiao (1.25 pm -5.00 pm).
Shanghai-style cuisine followed by night cruise on the Huangpu river (5.00 pm).

DAY 5 SHANGHAI LANGUAGE SCHOOL (B, L, D)

Mandarin language and culture learning (8.10 am -8.55 am).
Mandarin language and culture learning (9.10 am -9.50 am).
Chinese paper cutting (art) (10.15 am -11.00 am).
Making Shanghai dumplings (11.10 am -11.55 am)
Lunch– school canteen followed by games with Chinese students (11.55 am -1.25 pm).
Culture learning – field excursion: visit Expo site in Shanghai (1.25 pm -5.00 pm).
Korean-style cuisine followed by time to prepare for tomorrow’s closing ceremony (5.00 pm).

DAY 6 SHANGHAI LANGUAGE SCHOOL (B, L, D)

Mandarin language and culture learning (8.10 am -8.55 am).
Mandarin language and culture learning (9.10 am -9.50 am).
Tai Chi and Kung Fu practice (10.15 am -11.00 am).
Chinese tea ceremony (11.10 am -11.55 am).
Lunch– school canteen followed by poster making/Art class (11.55 am -1.25 pm).
Review on the week’s learning in a joint presentation format with Chinese partners, closing ceremony, certificates and photos (1.25 pm -3.10 pm).
Chinese dragon dance with Chinese partners (3.10 pm -5.00 pm).

DAY 7 SHANGHAI TO BEIJING (B, D)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Beijing, and transfer to your hotel on arrival. The rest of the day will be spent exploring Tiananmen Square and the Temple of Heaven. After dinner, you will love the Kung Fu show we have arranged!

DAY 8 BEIJING (B, L)

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, then step back in time at the Forbidden City, the centre of the world for the Chinese during 24 Ming and Qing dynasties. This afternoon, visit the beautifully preserved Summer Palace with its ornamental gardens, lake and characteristic pavilions and take a cruise. Own arrangements for dinner this evening.

DAY 9 GREAT WALL (B, L, D)

After an early breakfast, head to the 2,000 year old, 6,350km long Great Wall. Return to Beijing with a photo-stop at the Olympic Stadium. Lunch and dinner included. Enjoy a Peking duck dinner this evening, a Beijing specialty.

DAY 10 BEIJING – AUSTRALIA (B)

Morning at leisure after breakfast, before an afternoon transfer to the airport for your overnight flight to Australia.
