The Concept

Designed for: Secondary School Visual Art students

Featuring Melbourne’s key galleries and exhibitions, and introducing students to more contemporary art exhibitions, galleries and workshops, this itinerary can be adjusted to suit all ages, standards and group sizes.

Students will develop knowledge and understanding of Australian Art making use of the relevant disciplines, experiences and understandings gained throughout this program.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 MELBOURNE (D)

On arrival you will be transferred by your coach to your accommodation in the city.
In the morning, visit the National Gallery of Victoria to view the most significant collection of art in the region, as well as experiencing the numerous activities, events and exhibitions on offer.
Lunch is at own arrangements.
In the afternoon, visit ACCA to witness their current exhibition and participate in the TALK THINK MAKE education program
Dinner tonight is provided.

DAY 2 MELBOURNE (B, D)

After breakfast your coach will take you to the Heide Museum of Modern Art. After spending some time viewing the latest exhibition, students will take part in a ‘Making Art’ workshop
Lunch is at own arrangements.
Your coach will then take you to your afternoon activity – IPad painting and drawing with Rebecca Jones. You will be amazed at what you can do with this medium, and gives a new meaning to working ‘en plain air’!
On returning to your hotel, you will need to get ready for dinner, and then you are off to the theatre!

DAY 3 MELBOURNE (B, D)

In the morning, visit the Melbourne Arts Centre where you will explore the labyrinth beneath the famous spire and uncover the fascinating history of the arts precinct. Students are invited to take a look inside Australia’s largest performing arts centre and the home of world-class music, dance, theatre and opera companies. View the vast underground theatres and discover highlights from the world-renowned Performing Arts Collection. The tour will also encompass current gallery exhibitions and the significant Australian artworks found throughout the Art Centre foyer. The rest of the day is at own arrangements for you to explore Melbourne, before returning to your accommodation to get ready for dinner.

DAY 4 MELBOURNE (B)

After breakfast this morning, your guide will meet you at your hotel and escort you on your ‘Walk to Art’ tour of Melbourne. Designed to encourage artistic development through discovery and exploration, Walk to Art allows students to understand art not through the commercial large gallery-style art displays, but through access to street art, public art, artist-run spaces and small galleries. Teachers and students absolutely love this view of Melbourne.
After lunch, enjoy some free time before returning home this afternoon.

OTHER OPTIONS TO CONSIDER IF YOU WISH TO ADD ANOTHER DAY:

• Museum day – visit Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, and Scienceworks
• Go Ice Skating, visit Melbourne Eye, and take a guided tour of Etihad Stadium
• Take a full day workshop with Nicole @ Circa Vintage on making and designing clothes
• Indoor Rock Climbing in the morning and circus school in the afternoon
