The Concept

Modern Japan is noted for having the leading edge in all forms of technology and science - from cars to electronics, the shinkansen to space. It offers the student an opportunity to combine leading technology with cultural Japan.

This 10 day program features Tokyo and Kyoto. Tours range from the Tsukuba Science park to the Maglev train (recently reached 603 kmh) exhibition and discussions with Online games producers.

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 AUSTRALIA - TOKYO

Sunday - Fly to Tokyo. Transfer from airport to accommodation.

DAY 2 TOKYO (B)

Monday - Spend an hour with either a TV creator on Virtual settings for live broadcast or meet with a developer of online Games at JOGA (Japanese online games Association). Afterwards enjoy a walking tour of the Akihabara district (electric city) In the afternoon visit the National Museum of Emerging Science & Innovation (Miraikan). The Museum is a fabulous hands on and English friendly- experience androids (ASIMO demonstration), cutting edge science experiments and geo Cosmos movement and screening (Closed on Tuesdays).

DAY 3 TOKYO (B)

Tuesday -Travel by coach to Tsukuba Science Park. (Approximately 1 hour from Tokyo). Originally the site for the World Expo in 1985, it has developed into a science city. A whole day to be spent here exploring any of the following science areas: space and satellites/robotics/ Geology plus many other options. English Guide to be provided by the centre for this day.

DAY 4 TOKYO (B)

Wednesday - Travel by coach to the Maglev Exhibition centre in Yamanashi Prefecture (1.5 hours from Tokyo). See the Maglev exhibition, experience the maglev train and watch testing trails of up to 500 kms per hour. Afterwards take your coach to travel to the foot hills of Mt Fuji before returning to Tokyo.

DAY 5 TOKYO - YOKOHAMA - TOKYO (B)

Thursday - Travel by coach to Yokohama. (Approximately 30 Mins from Tokyo). Your 1st visit is to the Toshiba Science Museum. This is a facility where people can have fun learning about science & technology through extensive hands on program & exhibitions consisting f the past/ present and future. In the afternoon visit the Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum. Here you will see the latest technologies through impressive exhibits and actual machines & large scale models. The museum is divided into 7 zones ie aerospace/ocean/transportation/environment/ energy and technology. Return to Tokyo for overnight.

DAY 6 TOKYO - KYOTO (B)

Friday - Spend the morning sightseeing around Tokyo. In the afternoon depart for Kyoto or Osaka on the shinkansen. On arrival check into your accommodation. Remainder of the day is free to explore.

DAY 7 KYOTO (B)

Saturday - Today is a special day to tour the old capital of Japan- Kyoto. Kyoto has many beautiful sites including the famous Golden Pavilion, a shogun’s Palace plus the Imperial Palace. It a place for walking in the markets or visiting the Manga Museum. Coach and guide provided Return to accommodation.

DAY 8 KYOTO - HIROSHIMA - KYOTO or KOBE (B)

Sunday - Catch the Shinkansen to Hiroshima. (approximately 2 hours by train). Visit the Peace Park and Memorial Museum and the A- bomb Dome. Or travel to Kobe. (approximately 40 mins by train). Visit the earthquake Museum (Disaster reduction & Human renovation Institution). Built to commemorate the great 1995 Kobe earthquake, the Institution has both a visual and learning program. It begins with an earthshattering movie which sets the scene for the remainder of the museum.

DAY 9 OSAKA - UNIVERSAL STUDIOS - AUSTRALIA (B)

Monday - Pack your bags and travel to Universal studios. Afterwards transfer to the airport for your flight to Australia.

Tuesday - Arrive Australia
