The Concept

Would your students like to perform in Japan? Make it happen with this superb itinerary highlighted by a joint performance with a Japanese high school. This itinerary is suitable for orchestra, band or choral/choir groups. We arrange instrument hire with safe, secure transportation throughout the duration of the tour.   

Itinerary Day By Day

DAY 1 AUSTRALIA – TOKYO (D)

Depart Australia and travel to Tokyo. You will be met by our representative on arrival and then transfer to your chosen accommodation by private coach. Dinner provided.

DAY 2 TOKYO (B)

After breakfast, enjoy a free day to explore Tokyo at your teachers’ discretion. Meiji Shrine, Harajuku or even Disneyland (extra cost).

DAY 3 TOKYO (B)

After breakfast, enjoy a free day to explore Tokyo at your teachers’ discretion. Suggestions include many of Japan’s contemporary art galleries, Iidabashi and Asakusa (music shops).

DAY 4 TOKYO – MATSUMOTO (B, L, D)

After breakfast board your private coach for transfer to Tokyo station and take the Shinkansen to Matsumoto. On arrival walk to the hotel with your luggage. Afterwards walk to Matsumoto Castle. Enjoy a visit with an English-speaking Volunteer Guide. Walk back to Hotel. Dinner provided.

DAY 5 MATSUMOTO (B, L, D)

After breakfast this morning walk to Matsumoto City Museum of Art. Enjoy Yayoi Kusama’s works (painted dots) and Katsushika Hokusai art. Undertake a workshop in Calligraphy with a local artist. Walk to a local restaurant to enjoy the experience of soba noodle making. Enjoy your noodles for lunch. The afternoon will feature the Suzuki method of music learning, founded in Matsumoto. Go to the museum and then to the HQ to view children undertaking lessons in the Suzuki Method. Dinner provided.

DAY 6 MATSUMOTO (B, L, D)

After breakfast, transfer to the local high school by coach. The visit will include a welcoming ceremony, performance by your group plus cultural activities. Return to your hotel. Dinner included.

DAY 7 MATSUMOTO – TAKAYAMA (B, D)

After breakfast depart Matsumoto by coach and travel to Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, a UNESCO site. These are 11th Century villages which have retained their thatched roofs. The area is famous for raising silk worms in the houses. Continue to Takayama for overnight stay. Dinner provided.

DAY 8 TAKAYAMA (B, D)

After breakfast explore Takayama village in the morning. After lunch (own arrangements) transfer to a local high school. This afternoon after the welcome ceremony, the school will give a performance. The Japanese school will also give a performance. Enjoy activities with the local students at the school (tea ceremony, sweet making). Return to your accommodation. Dinner provided.

DAY 9 TAKAYAMA – KYOTO (B, D)

After breakfast, depart Takayama by train to Kyoto changing to the Shinkansen in Nagoya. Arrive in Kyoto and walk to your accommodation. Afternoon free to explore Kyoto. Dinner provided.

DAY 10 KYOTO (B)

After breakfast transfer to a local High school for a cultural and music exchange.

DAY 11 KYOTO (B, D)

After breakfast this morning enjoy a half day city tour of Kyoto. The remainder of the day is free to explore further. Perhaps a train ride to Nara. Dinner provided.

DAY 12 KYOTO – AUSTRALIA (B)

After breakfast, enjoy a free day to explore Kyoto at your teachers’ discretion. In the afternoon transfer to Kansai Airport for your flight to Australia.
